ZVVZ enhances Prague Metro safety with modern fans

ZVVZ MACHINERY, a member of the prominent Czech holding GES GROUP, has secured a contract to supply 37 new ventilation fans for the Prague Metro's B and C lines. The project, aimed at ensuring safer and more efficient operation, began implementation in September 2025 at Vyšehrad and Karlovo náměstí stations. The modernization of a total of 20 machine rooms is expected to take approximately three years.
The newly installed APWM 1800 and APWM 1600 fan models will replace equipment from the 1980s, which no longer meets current fire resistance requirements. The new fans are capable of operating at temperatures up to 400 °C for two hours, ensuring daily air exchange on platforms and in tunnels, as well as passenger safety during emergency situations.
ZVVZ MACHINERY has a long-standing collaboration with the Prague Metro. Between 2018 and 2020 alone, it supplied 18 fans for the machine rooms on line C.
“Our company is building on more than seventy years of manufacturing tradition and technical expertise in this contract for the Prague Metro. ZVVZ MACHINERY, together with colleagues from the Assembly and Service department of ZVVZ ENGINEERING, will provide a complete delivery of the mechanical systems, including the dismantling of the old technology, production and installation of new fans, noise dampers, and other accessories,” says Sales Manager Zbyněk Kaisler.
“Fans are a key product for ZVVZ, and we are very pleased with the long-term cooperation with the Prague Metro. We are currently working intensively with the chief designer to finalize the implementation documentation, securing key subcontractors, and starting production of the first four fans,” adds CEO Miloslav Kafka.
